چکیده

In cases of acute severe pancreatitis mortality rate remains high. Few of these patients develop increased intra abdominal pressure. This study used utility of intra abdominal pressure monitoring to assess severity of severe acute pancreatitis and its comparison with CT severity index and to predict prognosis of patients of acute severe pancreatitis by measuring intra abdominal pressure and to assess outcome. Frequent measurement of IAP during intensive care is important in predicting mortality in severe acute pancreatitis and recognizing patients potentially benefitting from decompressive laparotomy.

Should we measure intra-abdominal pressures in every intensive care patient?

Intra-abdominal pressure (IAP) is seldom measured by default in intensive care patients. This review summarises the current evidence on the prevalence and risk factors of intra-abdominal hypertension (IAH) to assist the decision-making for IAP monitoring.IAH occurs in 20% to 40% of intensive care patients. High body mass index (BMI), abdominal surgery, liver dysfunction/ascites, hypotension/vas...

Intra-Abdominal Hypertension and Abdominal Compartment Syndrome in Critically Ill Surgical Patients (Special Findings in Severe Acute Pancreatitis)

Intra-abdominal hypertension (IAH) and abdominal compartment syndrome (ACS) are very frequent findings in patients with severe acute pancreatitis. The causing factors are the retroperitoneal inflammation, paralytic ileus, ascites and the serious visceral edema due to massive fluid resuscitation, which leads to increased intra-abdominal pressure (IAP), early organ disfunction with IAH and finall...
